Sonia joined Slate in 2022 as Managing Director and Global Head of Compliance and Governance. She oversees all registered and non-registered personnel and activities from a regulatory risk management and governance perspective, to ensure our governance frameworks and internal controls remain robust.

Sonia has over 25 years of regulatory, governance and legal experience. Most recently, Sonia held the role of Vice President, Special Initiatives at OMERS. Prior to joining OMERS, Sonia was a regulator with IIROC for nine and a half years, holding varied roles on both the trading and dealer regulation sides of the organization, including operational leadership of a new regulatory division. Sonia has experience as a General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and practiced law at Torys LLP and McMillan LLP.

Sonia is a strong advocate for community engagement and is active in her community. She is a member of the Advisory Board of Innovate Cities, and the Board of Directors of the Children’s Book Bank and Literacy Foundation. She is also a member of Governance Professionals of Canada.
